Shadow Delayed aka Bumps Happen

I don't like to take back or change things I've stated.  If I decide on a timeline for something, I don't want to change it.  When I give a date for something, I really hate missing that date.

I see where this can be a flaw as much as a benefit, especially when it comes to doing something I've never done before.

All I know about self-publishing is from research I've done in the past year.  I'm only just trying it all out now, and discovering the real world realities of what I've learned.

Certain things I thought I could do myself are proving a great deal more difficult than I thought.  Difficult enough that I think I will have to elicit more help.  Which will take more time.

I said Shadow would be published in August of 2012.  I've decided to change that date to just 2012.  I know the book will come out by the end of the year, but I'm not going to press myself to a month, because I don't know what hurdles will come up between now and then.

I'm still learning how this works, learning to work with the people I'm hiring to help me.  Right now, the bigger mistake would be to put pressure on myself to meet an arbitrary deadline.  I want Shadow to be a quality product, not just to come out on time.

I will announce an official date once I have everything together and ready to go.  In the meantime, I can relax and commit to making it the best novel I can produce.

Cheers all,

  1. Sounds like you are making the right decision. You owe it to yourself to make sure that Shadow is perfect in every way and that it's the best it can be when you send it out into the world.

  3. The beauty of self publishing is that you have the control. You are your own boss.

  5. Good luck, but the learning is just beginning, and I'm afraid never ending.
